According to studies by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), our country\u2019s inadequate response to COVID-19 has resulted in over 1.1 million deaths<\/a> and on average over 3200 people hospitalized daily. This means that the pandemic should return to status as a national emergency. Since the start of the pandemic in early 2020, tens of millions have become unemployed<\/a> and currently face eviction<\/a>. Persons with disabilities and in particular those who are immunocompromised have been significantly impacted. What is concerning is that according to the CDC only 17 percent<\/a> of people in the U.S. are current on their booster shots.<\/p>

Many in the US have been skeptical about the efficacy of vaccines, however the <\/span>strong scientific evidence is that vaccines work<\/a>, even if their efficacy is not 100 percent. One of the main reasons people are skeptical about vaccines, aside from rampant disinformation, is the <\/span>distrust of the for-profit pharmaceutical industry<\/a>, which has made massive profits from the sale of Covid-19 vaccines. In 2022, <\/span>Moderna alone made $18.4 billion in profit<\/a> from Covid-19 vaccine sales. However, much of the research and development of vaccines is done by <\/span>publicly funded institutions<\/a>.<\/a><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
