En 2016, hubo dos candidatos que dijeron a la gente que su dolor era leg\u00edtimo y su rabia v\u00e1lida, que el sistema hab\u00eda sido manipulado en su contra. Eran Bernie Sanders y Donald Trump.<\/p>\n
Sin embargo, s\u00f3lo uno de ellos quer\u00eda hacer algo al respecto. El otro buscaba principalmente aprovechar toda esa ira para sus propios fines pol\u00edticos.<\/p>\n
So here we are.<\/p>\n
La rabia que sent\u00eda la gente entonces se sigue sintiendo hoy. \u00bfHa mejorado econ\u00f3micamente el sistema en los dos \u00faltimos a\u00f1os? En algunos aspectos, s\u00ed. Pero en aspectos fundamentales, no. Nuestro corrupto sistema pol\u00edtico est\u00e1 al servicio de unos pocos a expensas de la mayor\u00eda. Y no se alterar\u00e1.<\/p>\n
Uno de cada cuatro estadounidenses sigue viviendo con deudas m\u00e9dicas. Un tercio de la poblaci\u00f3n activa estadounidense trabaja por menos de $15 la hora; la mitad no puede permitirse un apartamento de un dormitorio. La mitad de nuestros mayores viven con menos de $25.000 al a\u00f1o. Estados Unidos tiene la tasa de pobreza m\u00e1s alta de cualquier democracia avanzada.<\/p>\n
Si est\u00e1s en el 20% de los estadounidenses que m\u00e1s ganan, la econom\u00eda funciona bien. Y por eso podemos estar agradecidos. Pero ese 20% vive en una isla rodeada por un mar de desesperaci\u00f3n econ\u00f3mica. Dentro de ese mar, una mir\u00edada de disfunciones personales y sociales se reproducen con facilidad, desde la ansiedad cr\u00f3nica y la adicci\u00f3n hasta la captura ideol\u00f3gica por parte de elementos genuinamente psic\u00f3ticos, incluso fascistas, de nuestra sociedad.<\/p>\n
Debemos responder a esta situaci\u00f3n, pues representa una inquietud insostenible.<\/p>\n
Franklin Roosevelt said we wouldn\u2019t have to worry about a fascist takeover in America so long as democracy delivered on its promises. Yes, there is a genuine fascist threat in America today. But we can\u2019t just fight the disease; we must build up our societal immune system, as well. That means we must build up our people. We must provide a massive infusion of economic hope and opportunity to the over 70 percent of Americans who say they feel no economic hope, who simply do what they can to survive what they know is an inherently unjust economic system. Their dreams, and the dreams of their children, are limited. They are depressed and angry about it, and if those feelings are not assuaged \u2013 if their needs are not met – then America will be in even bigger trouble than we are now.<\/p>\n
That is why I am running for president. I have had a forty year career working up close and personal with people whose lives are in trouble, and too many are in trouble now. Despair has become a feature, not a bug, of the American experience … yet our system continues to maintain injustices that make the suffering inevitable.<\/p>\n
Our government \u201cof the people, by the people, and for the people\u201d has become a government \u201cof the corporations, by the corporations, and for the corporations.\u201d Our public policies regularly do more to serve the goal of short-term profit maximization for corporate and billionaire donors, than to serve the goal of safety, health and well-being of the American people. The humanitarian values at the core of our Declaration of Independence have been replaced by a soulless economics as the governing principle of our civilization.\u00a0 The tentacles of hyper-capitalism, devoid of any ethical or moral consideration, now reach greedily into every corner of our society. A Second Gilded Age is upon us, income disparity as great as at any time in our history, and everything from climate catastrophe to AI catastrophe to nuclear catastrophe now loom as genuine threats to our civilization.<\/p>\n
Es hora de dar la vuelta.<\/p>\n
In the words of President John F. Kennedy, \u201cThose who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable.\u201d In the years ahead of us, America is going to change. It is up to us to make the change a conscious, wise and responsible one.\u00a0\u00a0As president, I will make sure we do.<\/p>\n
Una aristocracia corporativa -desde las compa\u00f1\u00edas de seguros y farmac\u00e9uticas hasta las grandes empresas agroalimentarias, pasando por las empresas qu\u00edmicas, los fabricantes de armas, las petroleras, las tecnol\u00f3gicas y los contratistas de defensa- tiraniza ahora este pa\u00eds, y los d\u00edas de sus extralimitaciones y derechos deben terminar.
